*openmargin is hiring (freelancers)!
We’re a young startup based in The Netherlands working on a platform to make the digital book a social experience. We are currently looking for both an experienced developer who knows his (or her!) bash-kungfu and an awesome interaction designer that can translate our crazy ideas into a next-level user interface.
At first on a freelance-basis for 2-3 months (starting ASAP!), but there’s a big chance we might want to extend this if you share our vision. An equity share is something we might want to discuss in the future as well.
If you can identify yourself with one of the previous description read further! If not, help your friends and colleagues land a nice gig by forwarding the URL of this page: http://bit.ly/omjobs
Developer
Description: Without going into too much detail right away, one of the most important part of the project is developing a robust API which can be implemented by software developers from different backgrounds. Besides the API a website need to be coded as well which will need an algorithm to find ‘related’ annotations and implements some existing APIs to get data from other (open) sources. For all the details please contact us, see below.
Some pointy things:
- Experience with using APIs and open standards required.
- Experience with developing your own API is a big plus.
- We prefer using Ruby on Rails but let us know if you have a better suggestion.
- You’ll need to be able administrate the server as well.
- Let us know what makes you a great programmer (throw some acronyms like SCM around and you should be good).
Pay: Around €6.000 for the first two months. Full-time.
Interaction Designer
Description: Although the API is our primary focus we are developing a website as well. This website will be a ‘hub’ where users get an overview of their annotations and get to explore the neighbor annotations around them. This might sound a bit vague but we already have a pretty clear idea what we want. – What we need you for is to fine-tune our concept, perhaps even brainstorm with us a bit to change it up after all, and then design it into a beautiful website. We’re going for a non-traditional approach and need you to be proficient in HTML, CSS and JavaScript. We’ll provide you with tons of interaction ideas so you should be able to cope with that. (e.g. argue what would work and what wouldn’t)
Other stuff you should know:
- We need browser compatibility for all modern browsers.
- Advanced Javascript experience is a plus.
- We need the design to be optimized for a touch-screen interface, but should work on regular computer as well.
- Experience with using a touchscreen-based device (e.g. iPhone) is a plus.
Pay: Around €4.000 for the first two months. Full-time first month, part-time the second.
What we offer
- Be part of the development of hopefully a very succesful startup.
- Work from home. (although we might want to meet up once in a while depending on your location)
- Possibly a contract in the future or an equity share.
- Work with other very passionate people and learn from each other.
We prefer someone based in The Netherlands who speaks Dutch (it’s just easier communicating that way), but if you can WOW us with your talent we might make an exception so be sure to apply anyway!
